Weed Smothering in Mustard (Brassica spp) by its High-Density Uniform Broadcast Sowing

نویسندگان

چکیده

Manual weed control in mustard is very expensive because of its high labour requirement i.e., 150-250 labourers/ha. Chemical again imposes environmental hazards. Mechanical not still that popular till date. Due to severe competition, the yield reduction Indian may go as 70 per cent. Thus zero using high-density sowing (HDS) was studied different farmers’ field, at ICAR-CRIJAF, North 24 PGS and Purulia, from 2018-2022. Fast growing high- density uniform canopy (100-200 m2) developed early stages hinders sunlight penetration (up 99.98 cent) below (at 35- 40 days), leading scanty under growth composite species harvest, those germinate or grow canopy. Weed population reduced by 92 97 cent harvest. It only 10-80/m2 harvest over 350-1000/m2 weedy situation initial germination. The dicot biomass matured 81-99 percent (5-150g/ plots (500-800/ m2). Reduction effective flowers/pods weeds were up 99.5 percent. Proper agronomic management practices HDS e.g., seed rate, date sowing, uniformity irrigation fertiliser application will eliminate herbicide manual weeding mustard. Nearly 80 plants remain active saves labours /ha depending on Mustard grain ranged 15-30 q/ha varieties used. This smothering merit can be used for eco friendly other wide spaced field/horticultural crops dwarf variety (Toria).

Effect of Brassica Cover Crops and Hazelnut Husk Mulch on Weed Control in Hazelnut Orchards

Weed management is critical in hazelnut (Corylus avellana) production. Weeds reduce nutrient availability, interfere with tree growth, and reduce handharvesting efficiency. Field experiments were conducted from Fall 2006 to 2010 to test effects of brassica (Brassica sp.) cover crops and hazelnut husk mulch as alternative weed management strategies in hazelnut. The cover crop treatments consiste...

Using simulation models to investigate the cumulative effects of sowing rate, sowing date and cultivar choice on weed competition

With the increasing pressure on crop production from the evolution of herbicide resistance, farmers are increasingly adopting Integrated Weed Management (IWM) strategies to augment their weed control. These include measures to increase the competitiveness of the crop canopy such as increased sowing rate and the use of more competitive cultivars. While there are data on the relative impact of th...

Variability of Fatty Acid Composition in Interspecific Hybrids of Mustard Brassica Juncea and Brassica Napus

In Sri Lanka, mustard (Brassica juncea) is cultivated as a subsidiary crop for the seeds used as a condiment in cooking. In the Indian sub-continent, however, it is an important oilseed crop used as a source of vegetable oil. Mustard has over 45% erucic acid (C22:1) which is unsuitable nutritionally for human consumption. The Brassica oilseed species, B. napus and B. campestris, were developed ...

Pollination of rapeseed (Brassica napus) by Africanized honeybees (Hymenoptera: Apidae) on two sowing dates.

In this study, performed in the western part of the state of Paraná, Brazil, two self-fertile hybrid commercial rapeseed genotypes were evaluated for yield components and physiological quality using three pollination tests and spanning two sowing dates. The treatments consisted of combinations of two rapeseed genotypes (Hyola 61 and Hyola 433), three pollination tests (uncovered area, covered a...

Growth response modulation by putrescine in Indian mustard Brassica juncea L. under multiple stress.

Plants, in general, are put to various kinds of stress, biotic and abiotic, both natural and manmade. Infestation by insect pests and diseases, and extreme conditions such as salinity, temperature, etc., as well as heavy metal contamination affect their growth performance. Here, we studied the impact of salinity and heavy metal pollution on the growth performance of Indian Mustard Brassica junc...
